The pre-meeting institute, Examining Race, Identity, and Power is planned for Thursday, February 15, from 9:00 - 3:00. This Institute will create powerful experiences which encourage participants to engage deeply with their own racial identity and positions of power.
The institute will include visits to the Medgar Evers House and the new Civil Rights Museum, as well as reflection experiences on the meaning of these sites for us as educators, students and activists committed to racial justice.
The cost of the institutes is $35 including transportation during the Institute, admission fees, and lunch.
If you wish to participate in one of these institutes, we encourage you to arrive to Jackson on Wednesday night. Lodging for Wednesday, February 14, is available at the conference rate of $87 for a single or $43.50 for a double room. Unless you coordinate this, you will not have the same roommate as for the main meeting. Transportation from the airport/or station and dinner Wednesday night are not included in the institute fee, but we will try to organize shared rides and meet-ups.
